Cork City and Limerick drew 2-2 in an entertaining game at Bishopstown this afternoon.
In a competitive game, former City striker Denis Behan put the visitors ahead ten minutes before half time as he got in behind the defence to slot past Mark McNulty. Less than ten minutes later City were level. A spell of City pressure forced successive corners, and when the ball broke for captain Dan Murray on the edge of the penalty area, he smashed a low shot right-footed to the bottom of the net. Tommy Dunne’s side nearly claimed the lead just before the break as Davin O’Neill raced onto a ball in behind the defence, but after rounding the keeper, his effort was cleared by the Limerick defence.
Both sides traded opportunities in the second half, before Shane O’Connor gave City the lead with twenty minutes remaining, as the winger met a right wing cross from John Dunleavy at the back post with a first time volley to the net. Within ten minutes however, the visitors were level, as a free kick from distance deceived Kevin Burns in the City goal and hit the back of the net. There were further chances for both sides prior to the end, but neither could find a breakthrough as it ended two all.
