A win for Waterford Utd against Shelbourne and a win for City tonight in Salthill mean the Leesiders now lie in top spot of the Airtricity First Division.
Graham Cummins scored for the fourth match running to give City a 21st minute lead when he ended a flowing move to dink the ball over Devon keeper Adrian Faherty.
A cruel deflection off a defender resulted in Faherty being beaten again on 36 minutes from a Gearoid Morrissey free-kick.
Vinny Sullivan added a third right on the blow of half-time when he punished sloppy defending to score with a simple tap-in.
Ian Turner got City’s fourth goal on 75 minutes.
