Cork City scored five for the second week in a row to record an emphatic 5-1 win over Salthill Devon this afternoon in Drom.

It was a familiar line-up for City, with Derek O’Brien still out with injury and Tommy Dunne sticking with his winning formula of Vinny Sullivan and Graham Cummins up front. Salthill did have the majority of possession in the first half, but just couldn’t seem to convert that dominance into efforts on goal. The away side on the other hand made use of the ball and seemed more clinical in the final third.

Salthill could only manage a few long range efforts which ballooned off target. Shane Duggan’s strike just before the break earner the Leesiders a corner, and it was from this that they took the lead. Gearóid Morrissey’s delivery corner ended up at the back post and Greg O’Halloran was on hand to sweep the ball home to score his second of the season.

The lead was doubled 2 minutes later. Cian Fadden was adjudged to have tripped Duggan. Davin O’Neill stepped up to fire the ball to the back of the net, putting City two up at the interval.

Cummins continued the goal feast shortly after the break. O’Neill with the assist, he played City’s number 9 in one on one with Bernard Power and he coolly slotted home. Salthill did pull one back through dramatic circumstances moments later. Daniel Rupa somehow found himself through on goal, and Mark McNulty was forced to take down striker. Referee Kevin O’Regan pointed to the spot and sent off McNulty. Ciprian Straut converted the penalty, after City brought on substitute goalkeeper James McCarthy.

Within mere minutes there was another penalty, this time for Cork City. O’Halloran was taken down by James Whelan. Cummins grabbed the ball and hammered the ball into the bottom corner to score his second of the game.

Davin O’Neill put the icing on the cake deep into injury time. Vincent Escudé-Candau teed the up for the Cobh native and he made no mistake from 10 yards 0ut.
