Cork City rounded off their first season in the First Division with a a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wexford Youths.
Cillian Lordan and Shane Duggan were given starts, with Gareth Cambridge and Eoghan Lougheed dropping to the bench.
With neither side having much to play for, the game was a dour affair for most part. Graham Cummins had the first real chance at breaking the deadlock, he stole the ball from Shane Nolan outside the box, but when he got sight of goal his finish left a lot to be desired as he blazed over with the goal at his mercy.
Danny Furlong came close for Youths moments later, but he again blazed over in a half where chances were few and far between.
It was an eventful second half, and a minute in Cummins saw an effort rebound off the post. City were then awarded a penalty shortly after when Neal Horgan was taken down in the box. Cummins stepped up to increase his impressive goal tally, but Packie Holden saved brilliantly.
Wexford took the lead through the misfortune of Cillian Lordan, he put the ball into his own net after he attempted to chest the ball back to Mark McNulty. The Youths doubled their lead five minutes from the end, Danny Furlong capitalised on a mistake from the City defence and he finished coolly from 8 yards out.
City did pull one back near the end through an unlikely source. Substitute Gareth Cambridge played an excellent through ball to Gavin Kavanagh, and the make-shift forward fired home, but it was all too late for a comeback. Eoghan Lougheed was then dismissed by the referee in confusing circumstances as he tried to retrieve the ball from the Wexford goal.
