Cork City Football Club came away from Tolka Park with a vital point to stretch their unbeaten run to six games.
Graham Cummins opened the scoring in the 75th minute after firing home Greg O’Halloran’s cross. Dinny Corcoran equalised for the home side shortly after to give both sides a share of the spoils.
A lacklustre affair, the game failed to live up to the pre-match hype with the first real shot on goal coming on the half hour mark. City were the better side in the opening stages, but neither goalkeeper had much to do before Mark Leech tested Mark McNulty, the latter saving easily.
Shane Duggan almost got on the end of a long throw in which proved to be his side’s best chance of the half, but at the interval it was all square.
Graham Cummins almost found himself straight through on goal shortly after the restart, but Gareth Whelan put a halt to his efforts with a tackle from outside the area. However, the City striker made no mistake from close range when he fired Cork City into the lead in the 75th minute.
Moments earlier, Shelbourne were denied a penalty decision from referee Derek Tomney, but the Leesiders took full advantage of a lapse in concentration from the Drumcondra side. Shane Duggan’s shot was well saved by Delaney, but Cummins was on hand to score his fifth goal of the season.
The celebrations were short lived, Dinny Corcoran scoring a similar goal down the other end. Seán Byrne’s cross was spilt by McNulty and Corcoran turned the ball home to level the game.
